I was a wide-eyed preschooler when I entered my school eleven years ago, with its slightly intimidating building, its curriculum of structural learning, its discipline, punctuality, sports, extra-curricular activities. I remember I had cried on my first day. But then my very kind teacher had woven a maze of wonderment for me and led me to this new world- the world of formal education- and I was lost, and found!!! She was like a mother: gentle and strict, caring and stern, full of fun and laughter. And all the while, I learned to make friends, respect my elders and teachers, learn numbers, alphabets, languages, science, environment and what not! The journey continued- the journey of learning, of growing and of shaping. It still does.
My school has taught me the three pillars of learning- Literacy, Numeracy and Oracy, which, I believe, go a long way to realizing the importance of our Fundamental Rights and Fundamental Duties in this beautiful democracy we live in- India.
I may be lacking copiously, but I believe I make up for it in my humble, unending. For what is learning, if not unlearning and relearning.
काक चेष्टा, बको ध्यानं, स्वान निद्रा तथैव च
स्वल्पहारी, गृहत्यागी विद्यार्थी पंच लक्षणं।
I aim to stay true to my roots and make the whole greater than the sum of its parts. Because my school shaped me so.
